Time for Reflection

As we get ready to welcome in May I thought I would compare some photos from late fall to now. One of the unique aspects of my position is that I get to see the same things from week to week, but they always change.

In an earlier Blog I posted 2 pictures of Beaver Pond out in Kinsman Notch. The first was taken on Nov 7, 2007 and the second was taken 2 weeks later on Nov 21, 2007.

The next 2 pictures compare the same place but in April. The picture on the left was taken on April 16, 2008 and the picture on the right was taken on April 23, 2008. As you can see Mother Nature has the melting process well under way. As I type this it is raining out so I am sure the ice is gone.

The next pictures are from the Bath Covered Bridge. The picture on the left was taken on Jan 23, 2008 and the picture on the right was taken on April 23, 2008. The Spring melt was well under way and the roar of the water was simply amazing. I think the best time to visit a waterfall is in Spring or shortly after a heavy rainstorm.

Another favorite place of mine is Silver Cascade located in Crawford Notch State Park. This is one of the most amazing water falls, yet people zoom by it everyday. It is located right next to the road making it one of the most accessible waterfalls in the White Mountains. The photo on the left was taken on October 7, 2007. The middle photo was taken on April 2, 2008 and the right hand picture was taken on April 23, 2008

As we get ready to ready another season it will be fun to compare pictures over a year. Will the shades of green be the same or will the red in fall be as vibrant as it was last year. Keep watching and every now and then I will do a collage of pictures.
Also in the last photo you may have noticed a Moose. This is my van mascot. He will be showing up in more pictures as he gets out more. He was camera shy over the winter, but now he wants to get out and be in pictures.

Time to hit the Links

After a long Winter we can finally take out the clubs. I know at our Cape Cod Resorts they have been golfing for a few weeks, but now we can say that you can Golf in New Hampshire.

Owl's Nest Resort & Golf Club will be open with 9 holes of golf on Friday, April 25. The back nine will be opening shortly.

See you all on the links, well the way I play, the woods.

We are going to offer some special Trips for the Week of April 20-26. You will be able to sign up in advance for these trips by calling me at (603)745-9900 ext 470 or email me at epyra@innseason.com. Seating will be limited to 33 people (that's all the bus will fit).

On Tuesday we will leave the resort at 9am and head to Vermont for the day. Will make a stop at the Cabot Creamery in Cabot, VT and then head to Ben & Jerry's to enjoy their factory tour which is topped of with a free scoop of ice cream. The total cost for these trips will be $30. We will decide where to have lunch as we go.

Our next trip will be on Wednesday Night. We will leave the resort at 5:30 pm and head to Funspot for Wacky Wednesday. They roll back the prices to the 1980's and charge $2 per string for bowling and $1 for shoe rentals. They also have pizza for $5 for a 17" cheese pizza. Cost will be $10 per person for transportation and is limited to 33 people.

All of the above trips must have a minimum of 10 people to go.

We are also hoping to do a Moose Tour on Thursday Night, but as of this post it is not definite. Please check with me once you arrive. The Moose Guy is going out the next few nights to see what he can find for Moose. I'll keep you posted.

First Moose Sighting of 2008

I just received word from a guest that they saw a Moose on Tuesday while driving along the Kancamagus Highway. I had sent them out to do some sight seeing along the Kanc to enjoy the highway and scenery.

They reported that about 20 miles out they came across a Moose walking down the middle of the highway. They were abel to watch it for about 10 minutes when a car came in the other direction and spooked it back into the woods.

Keep your eyes out while your driving as this only means that more and more Moose will be on the move in the coming weeks.

April is Here

Well April has finally arrived, or is it that it is here already? I have received numerous phone calls about the upcoming April Vacation Week. The good news is that the skiing will still be open at Loon Mountain. The bad news is the currently we still have 1-2 may 3 feet of snow on the ground in many places. This means that some of the activities (hiking) people normally enjoy in Spring might be a little muddy. If you are planning on coming here during April Vacation Week please give me a call or send a comment to find out what the conditions are like. I plan on taking a drive each week to see what the snow pack is like in different areas of the White Mountains.
